Let’s get to it. Suicidal thoughts.

OMG did she really just say that???????

Yes. She did.

Nah but seriously; it’s not at all what you might perceive it to be. If someone were to say to you “I’m suicidal” I could 100% guess that 9/10 people would think that said person is thinking about taking their life. This may be the case – but this isn’t always the case. Suicidal thoughts can just be exactly that; thoughts and not necessarily harming yourself either.

“I feel like my family would be better off without me.”

“I wish I could just fade away, like just go to sleep forever.”

“I wonder what peoples lives would be like if i didn’t exist, would they miss me?”

“Have I made a difference? Do I?”

You don’t exactly have to be worried about a person with suicidal thoughts – I mean it’s not nice of course it’s not. But the likelihood of them actually harming themselves is very low. If they started talking differently about plans to take their life or became increasingly suicidal then I mean YEAH BE WORRIED. A person with thoughts NEEDS reassurance – it is so important to make them feel needed and wanted and loved. It is so important to make anyone feel that way.

Telling said person to stay positive is not enough – they need to know why and how they are important.
